If you are under 17 and a half, then you must complete Driver's Education and receive a Certificate of Completion in the mail prior to the test.
You will also need to bring your Social Security Card, Proof of Residency and OFFICIAL Birth Certificate.

You will take the Completion Certificate, Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, and Proof of Residency with you when you take the written permit test at the DMV.
You can usually walk-in and wait to take a test or you can schedule an office visit appointment.
You can now take it online! If eligible, pick a remote knowledge testing option after filling out your driver’s license application. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian will need to give permission.
Offered in 35 languages Mon-Fri, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A webcam is needed and cannot be taken on a smart phone or tablet. You will verify your identity before starting and will be monitored during the test.
Before taking the Knowledge Test it is advised to schedule your Driving Lessons as we are usually booked out a couple of weeks.
The new driver must hold their permit 6 months and 1 day from the issue date listed on the permit before being eligible to take the Behind-The Wheel Exam at DMV.
Newly permitted drivers may begin practicing with a licensed driver 25 years or older once they have finished the first behind the wheel lesson. The is a space for the instructor to sign on the second page.

New drivers practicing on a provisional learner's permit must only drive with a licensed driver over the age of 25. They may not drive between the hours of 11pm and 5am. They passenger must be in the front seat.
Parents or Guardians must sign the second page of the permit stating that their driver has practiced for 50 hour, 10 of which were night.
The student must sign the first page of the permit, stating that they understand the rules of the permit.
Permits will expire after 1 year and the new driver will need to reapply. However they will not have to redo their online driver's ed course.
Permits will expire 1 year from the day of the 1st attempt at the Knowledge Test. If you take more than 6 months to pass the test after your first attempt then your permit will be valid for less than 6 months and you will need to renew it before being eligible for your license.
